Pamela Crane

Interview with Pamela Crane...

Please join me in welcoming Pamela Crane to Cloey's Book Reviews and Other Stuff. We are happy to learn about The Halo Effect, a Romantic Thriller.

Cloey: When did you become interested in writing?

Pamela: When I was eight years old I wrote a short story about a rabbit and my story won a local contest, and since then I’ve been writing and have never looked back.

Cloey: What inspired you to write The Halo Effect?

Pamela: In February of 2006 writing became therapy for me after living out the experience of being stalked and having my life threatened. I needed to get my thoughts down on paper, so I wrote my story and titled it The Halo Effect—although I fictionalized it with a couple twists at the end.

Cloey: Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?

Pamela: The biggest problem for me overcoming the trauma of my experience with a sociopath was being able to forgive him. As it turned out, that was the key to moving on with my life and no longer being afraid. The Halo Effect reveals the dark side of human nature that we all possess, which allows us to be able to look beyond the actions into the soul of mankind and forgive those who hurt us…sometimes that’s even ourselves!

Cloey: Who was your favorite character and who was your least favorite character to develop and why?

Pamela: Hands down my favorite character was Allen Michaels. He’s quirky, egotistical, and a real-life Hollywood guy, with all of the eccentricities included. In trying to avoid a spoiler here, I’ll just say my least favorite character to develop was the girl who gets the guy at the end. I had a blank canvas for her and couldn’t take as many liberties with creating her, since she’s somewhat of a secret until the end.

Cloey: What did you enjoy most about writing The Halo Effect?

Pamela: The act of writing—creating memorable characters that readers can relate to and building relationships in my stories that I often don’t get to experience in real life due to the madness of everyday life—is something I enjoy. I can live a more exciting life through my stories, especially now that my life has slowed down since having kids. But writing The Halo Effect was more “therapeutic” than enjoyable, as it allowed me to move on from a bad experience.

Cloey: What were the challenges (research, literary, psychological, and logistical) in bringing the story to life?

Pamela: The challenges were having to relive my traumatic experience repeatedly during the writing process. It took months before my husband could read it without feeling rage toward my perpetrator. But in the end, I felt like living it out made the story that much more real for the reader.

Cloey: What are you working on now?

Pamela: I’m finishing up a novella about Allen Michaels and what happened to his missing wife—which remains a mystery in The Halo Effect when he skips town.

Cloey: What do you like to read in your free time?

Pamela: I love Steven James’ Patrick Bowers series, so I’m currently working my way through those.

Cloey: Share with us something about yourself that we wouldn't see in your bio or on any other blogs (this can be anything from the type of music you like, your favorite color, or even your favorite meal - share whatever you want your fans to know about you).

Pamela: The way to my heart is through Italian almond cream cake. A small-town Italian restaurant near my home makes it, and my husband has been working on perfecting it in our own kitchen—he’s quite the baker! It’s my absolute favorite food, and a must-have for every special occasion worth celebrating.

Cloey: Thank you so much for sharing The Halo Effect with us today. I cannot speak for everyone here but I can't wait to read it!

Book Description:

It started with a glance. And ended with a nightmare.

Small-town girl Haley Montgomery meets two men who will change her life forever—the handsome Marc Vincetti whom she falls head-over-heels for, and the big-time Hollywood producer Allen Michaels who has the power to turn her screenplay into a movie and a ticket to a better future.

It seems as though life couldn't get any better—until things take a decidedly dark turn when Haley spots Marc with his former high school sweetheart and Allen develops a consuming obsession with her.

As Haley is faced with a choice between love and fame, Marc becomes the target of a stalker and Haley's life is thrown into a tailspin. Suddenly everything she thought she knew about Marc and Allen is completely wrong—and Haley's life will never be the same again…

About the Author:

Pamela Crane is a North Carolinian writer of the psychological thriller The Halo Effect and wannabe psychologist, though most people just think she needs to see one. She’s a member of the ACFW and EFA, and has been involved in the ECPA, Christy Awards, and Romance Writers of America. Along with delving into people’s minds—or being the subject of their research—she enjoys being a wife to her best friend, mom, and riding her proud Arabian horse, when he lets her. She has a passion for adventure, and her hopes are to keep earning enough from her writing to travel the world in search of some good story material.
